RTI - LOWER PAID, TEMPORARY, IRREGULAR AND CASUAL STAFF

17 July 2013

With three months of RTI filing of payroll information under our belts, we are pleased to report that the system seems to be working well and has the benefit that employees have to collect payroll information about new staff before they are first paid. HMRC are able to act on information much more quickly, for example, to amend a tax code.  (Click here for the full story)

GROWING A SALEABLE BUSINESS

17 July 2013

When it comes to a retirement exit plan, many business owners are disappointed by the difficulties they face in realising a “decent” amount for the hard work they have put in over the years. THE BUDGET - THE KEY CHANGES FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

21st March 2013

As usual, the budget on 20 March contained many changes which won’t come into effect for some months or years and most of the announcements that will affect businesses from 6 April 2013 were announced some while ago. We detail the main announcements from the Budget that we think will affect small businesses and list some previous announcements which will come into place from this April.  (Click here for full story)

RTI - FURTHER INFORMATION

21st March 2013

Our payroll service will be fully compliant with the new requirements and we are keen to see how the system will work in practice. HMRC have promised a “light touch” approach to penalties in the first year for most small businesses, who are late with their returns or make errors on their returns, with the regime being broadly similar to the penalty regime now. However, it remains to be seen what the “light touch” will be and we think it will be important to ensure that the returns are made accurately from April 2013. (click here for full story)

REAL TIME INFORMATION (RTI) DRAWS NEAR

13 September 2012

HMRC have now finalised the details of the changes that will be made to the PAYE reporting system from April 2013. The changes, which are to the reporting side of the system rather than the way PAYE is calculated, mean that employers will tell HMRC about PAYE payments at the time they are made as part of their payroll process instead of waiting until after the end of the tax year, as happens now.  (Click here for the full story)

CLOUD INNOVATION MAKES ACCOUNTING EASIER

13 September 2012

It’s normally hard to get very excited about accounting software. It’s there to do a job; provide management with good financial information and keep a proper record of what’s going on for HMRC and Companies House and we’ve all got used to the products available. However, the advent of Cloud Computing (where the software is on the internet, so you can use it wherever there’s an internet connection) has meant real innovations in new programmes that are revolutionising the way companies keep their accounting records.
